Yoga is a system originating in India which works towards a calm still mind, through a practice of physical postures, breathing and meditation.
Whereas Pilates is very much focused on the physical body and mental awareness, whereas Yoga also integrates both of these whilst also considering the energetic body and incorporating a spiritual connection of mind and body, through breath and meditation.
With Yoga you are exploring – where you are in terms of these different elements. What are your weaknesses, strengths, asymmetry, symmetry, tension. Are you relaxed? How is the breath doing? Are you present, concentrating? Hence you are brought into your body on a deeper level.
It is a practice of feeling and it is my role as a yoga teacher to get you to feel, sense, become aware, experience and move inwards. You might have all the technical expertise in the world in how to achieve a particular pose, but you also need sensitivity to the feedback that your body is giving you.
As your yoga teacher, its my aim to guide you to this place.
